The Best Travel Neck Pillow

Packing/Gear, Travel Tips
My favorite airline pillow is compact and inflatable and believe it or not is still comfortable!

I've never been a fan of those giant bulky neck pillows hanging off the outside of luggage, hitting people in the aisles, doubling the size of the personal item, and really just making so sense to me at all. Especially as someone striving to pack as efficiently as possible, I'm not going to allow one item to take up so much space nor carry something that doesn't even fit inside my luggage.

But I'm all about sleep and I'm all about comfort! So check out these wonderful compact neck pillows. you won't believe how small they pack!

These pillows are all easy to use and quick to inflate and deflate. The front clip is essential to keep your head from falling forward, but if you don't have it (like with the simple Lewis N. Clark pillow), you can just use the pillow sideways or backward.

1. Best Overall

This is the best quality, the softest fleece, and has the ability to wash the cover.
Eagle Creek Exhale Inflatable Neck Pillow

Eagle Creek Exhale Inflatable Neck Pillow

Similar to the Sea to Summit pillow but a little plusher, a tiny bit bigger, and a lot better quality. Packs tiny, blows up in just a few breaths to a nice large pillow with a narrow back and a closure in front. Not as easy to empty as StoS, but I love this pillow! It's a separate bladder in a soft pillow case.

2. Easiest to Use

The design of the quick deflate on this pillow is outstanding. I also prefer this front snap over the clip of the Eagle Creek but some might prefer otherwise.
Sea to Summit Aeros Ultralight Traveller Inflatable Neck Pillow

Sea to Summit Aeros Ultralight Traveller Inflatable Neck Pillow

This pillow packs down to almost nothing (2 x 2.75 inches) and weighs just 2.4 ounces! It blows up on only 3 breaths, and has a good design as far as being slim in the back and it snaps together in the front. Unfortunately, it doesn't last as long as it should for the price, but I still love it! (and the Eagle Creek pillow ) It's a single piece with glued seams.

3. Smallest

This little guy packs down so flat. It's also a much smaller pillow to use so there's compromise there. But I used this pillow for almost 20 years before I switched to the bigger ones.
Lewis N. Clark Original Neckrest Inflatable Pillow

Lewis N. Clark Original Neckrest Inflatable Pillow

No need to have a big pillow hanging off your luggage! This has been my favorite pillow for many years. It folds down to nothing, is pretty sturdy (I have only gone through 2 or 3 of them in 18 years) and I like the shape the best of all the pillows I've tried. I like to use it sideways or backward. It's a single piece with heat-sealed seams.

Master Backpack Clip Lock

Master Backpack Clip Lock

I don't know why the best type of lock is the least seldom sold out there in travel-land. I find that the type of lock that is sort of like a carabiner is best because you can easily leave it clipped onto your zipper pull even when it's unlocked. I really only even lock my locks some of the time and the rest of the time they hang on my zipper pull as a deterrent - the thieves don't know if it's locked or not. Definitely always use a combination lock. The sleeker version seems to have gone away but these models do the trick.
